Treatment

Treatment

A message needs to be delivered.

The Story

My story is based on the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood. My interpretation is based around a hoplite soldier named Red. Red has been tasked with the mission to deliver an important message to a far away outpost. He must travel across treacherous lands to reach his destination but when he reaches his destination there is a surprise waiting.

2D Animation

2D Animation Idea.

For my 2D Animation I want to produce my version of little red riding hood, the twist will be that it is set in the classical Greek era. To help me accomplish this I will be creating the animation in the style of classical Greek art. So far I am unaware of any animations that are like this but I have found a bit of inspiration from a game. The game is called Apotheon and is a side scroller type indie game.

This is a gameplay trailer for the game.

Keith Reynolds can't make it tonight

A side view animation. Not really the style i'm looking for though.

Character Biography

Character Bio – Ozurr Hallkelson

Ozurr lives in a small village on the coast of England, it is a colony and was settled by a raiding force led by Ozurrs father. Ozurrs father took him on the journey, leaving his mother and sisters behind. When the colony was set up a force was sent out by the natives to recapture the village, they were defeated by the Vikings but unfortunately Ozurrs father was killed in the fighting. Now Ozurr lives by himself unable to return to his old home. He sees this village as his new home and will do anything to defend it.

Ozurr is young and is not yet old enough to fight for his village so in the meantime he practice constantly to prepare  himself for combat, his over eagerness for battle is what will become his weakness but he doesn’t understand this due to his naivete. The other more experience warriors know this but they also understand that when he comes of age nothing will be able to stop his brashness.  Ozurr would leap into battle with no hesitation if he was aloud but he understands and respects the rules of his people and honors his father’s wishes.

Ozurr grew up surrounded by the warrior’s lifestyle so since a kid he has trained his fighting skills. He can fight with a sword and shield, and spear, axes and even knows how to use a bow and arrow.  His skills are almost unmatched but he has no proper fighting experience to back this up. He is confident, honest and is courageous. These are his best qualities but at the same time his over confidence can be his downfall. This mixed with his courage can often lead to predictability and being tactless.  He gets along well with his family but now is unable to see his mother and sisters, he got along very well with his father and looked up to him. Almost all of his life morals and things he knows he has learnt through his father.

Before his father died he gave Ozurr his sword and helm, the shield that Ozurr uses he made himself and his chain mail was a gift from his mother before he departed on his journey. He has very bright red hair which he inherited from his father’s side and has a very stocky build. He lives on a full meat diet pretty much and loves going out by himself to hunt for his own food. When he was younger he saw his father fight off three drunken men after a scuffle at a tavern and ever since that day he has striven to be like his father. While he is a great warrior he was also taught by his mother how to read and write and is one of the only men in the village with the knowledge to do so.

Walk Cycles

Walk Cycles

As a part of our Assignment 2 for BDM126 we needed to produce walk cycles for our characters that we have created. For my one I found it kind of difficult due to the odd shape that I gave my character. Below are the final results.

Practice Stuff

Practice Stuff

The rest of these flash animations were practice ones. The walk cycles were a great help for the final walk cycles and the same for the run cycle. The head turn was one of the first things we did.

Animal Movements

For the next part we looked at the way different kinds of animals move. First we looked at birds, we then went into dogs and cats and finally we have looked at how a horse walks and runs. Below are examples of what we worked on.

Turn Around and Poses

Turn Around and Poses

As a part of our Assignment for BDM126 we are required to create a character. With this character we need to provide a turn around sheet and a pose sheet. For my character I have designed a young Viking by the name of Ozurr. Bellow are the final results.

First Draft for my Viking Story.

 Ozurr Hallkelson's story (First Draft)

Act 1
Ozurr lives in a small village on the coast of England. This village has only recently been occupied by Ozurrs people, the Vikings. Ozurr is the son of a great warrior and joined his father in his mission to settle more land. The mission was successful but unfortunately Ozurrs father was killed in a battle between a local tribe. This is where the story starts. Ozurr is determined to become a great warrior just like his father and fight against those that killed him. Ozurr has just come of age and has been given his fathers sword. He practices everyday and is becoming good but has much to learn. Ozurr now has guard duty every night but wishes to join the patrols that go outside the walls. The next day a soldier approaches him and asks him to join the patrol this evening. Ozurr is ecstatic he practices all day hoping for some excitement later in the night.

Act 2
Ozurr joins up with the patrol and is surprised when the mood is quiet and serious. Ozurr is placed at the back of the patrol. Shortly after they set off Ozurr see's something out of the corner of his eye in the woods. He stops to take a closer look but see's nothing, he walks closer to the bush and see's a slight shadow move in the distance he turns to shout at the patrol but it's gone. The patrol had kept moving and he was left by himself. Ozurr stands in shock and doesn't know what to do. He panics and decides to pursue the shadow in the woods. He creeps through the woods as quiet as possible but sees on sign of anyone. He decides to continue further into the woods, He sees in the distance the colour of red on the dense green floor of the forest and approaches carefully. As he gets closer he realizes it's a body. He inspects it closer and finds it's a fellow Viking he stands up suddenly and sees the other bodies surrounding him. He stands in shock, then hears a twig crack in the distance, he decides it's too late to turn back so he presses on-wards. As he walks forward he sees an opening in the trees to a open space of land. He stands at the edge of the tree line and at the other end of the field sees a lone warrior, He approaches.

Act 3
Ozurr leaves the cover of the trees and walks towards the lone warrior. As he gets closer he recognizes the warrior as the man who killed his father. Growing in anger, he is now determined to avenge his father. The warrior draws his weapon and stares at Ozurr. Ozurr replies by drawing his weapon. The warrior moves forward and tells Ozurr how his people will be destroyed like his father and the group of dead Vikings. Ozurr doesn't know how to reply so he attacks. At first the warrior easily parry's Ozurrs anger fueled attacks. Ozurr tries desperately but his over confidence and inexperience is his weakness. The warrior then makes his attack. Ozurr manages to defend against each well aimed hit but is tiring. He steps back for a moment and composes himself, he remembers the way his father fought and how he used to talk about trusting yourself when you fight. The warrior rushes Ozurr but he blocks it and counter attacks, the sword hits the warrior in the thigh and leaves a small gash. The warrior looks up at Ozurr in confusion and anger. He charges again but Ozurr is prepared, Ozurr knocks his shield to the side and lunges forward, The sword rips through the warriors chain-mail and straight into his chest. He slowly pulls away and falls to the ground. Ozurr is victorious, he makes his way back to the village to tell the others what he discovered.

Chicken Run
Chicken Run is a comedy escape drama with a touch of passion set on a sinister Yorkshire chicken farm in 1950s England.

The Protagonist in Chicken Run is Ginger (also called "Baby Doll and "Doll Face"). She is an intelligent, Rhode Island Red Hen and is pretty much the chickens leader and boss.

Ginger's main goal is to get past the fence and often gets in trouble for her efforts.

The ordinary life of the chickens in Chicken Run is by day they are chickens and do chicken things (obviously) but by night they work hard to try escape their prison like home.

The antagonist of Chicken Run are Mrs Tweedy and Mr Tweedy (more Mrs Tweedy really). Mrs. Tweedy is an extremely greedy, selfish, short-tempered, cruel, cold-hearted women who only uses chickens to get money, which she and her husband are very low on. She is always looking for a chance to bully Mr. Tweedy and the chickens, and despite her nastiness, she does show cleverness at times - she is the one who comes up with the idea of buying a pie machine to use to make more profit from the chickens.

The inciting incident in Chicken Run is the arrival of Rocky. With the introduction of Rocky into the movie he gives the chickens hope that they can escape. The ordinary life of the chickens now changes and the focus on the movie is how the chickens will escape from the murderous farmers keeping them captive.

The turning point in the movie is when the final escape takes place. The film has been building up to this escape attempt and we have seen all the previous failed attempts but this is their last chance to escape before they are all turned into chicken pies!
